April 2009

WOW!!! What a difference a couple of days makes. Dublin patios are really hopping today in this fabulous weather, Oscar's-Historic Dublin OHafter a long winter’s sleep. The Dublin Village Tavern (which I can see from my window) has been full today. And I can tell from the parking lot that La Chatelaine’s patio is busy as well. J Liu’s and Oscar’s also offer outdoor seating. So, come on over to the BriHi District in Historic Dublin, Ohio this weekend for great relaxation and food (after all that yard work).

By the way …. do you know what “BriHi” stands for? The first person that posts the correct answer to this question on our blog wins a fun Irish-inspired prize!  (Really!)  Sorry, but City of Dublin employees and Historic Dublin merchants can’t enter! 🙂

I had the opportunity to get a sneak peak this past week of the new Montgomery Inn located at the Shoppes at River Ridge in Dublin. I’ve experienced the Montgomery Inn located in Cincinnati and the food here in Dublin is no different – fantastic!

Other than the food, they have done a great job of incorporating some local flavor with plenty of Ohio State athletic jerseys, Columbus Blue Jackets and even Jack Nicklaus. The view is great as well – overlooking the Scioto River and a small lake complete with several fountains. The restaurant is scheduled to open this Wednesday, April 15.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream has arrived in Historic Dublin. Jeni's Dublin Mary and I visited the new establishment recently (since we’re conveniently located  upstairs). Mary sampled … Savannah Butternut (smooth and laid-back like Savannah!); Salty Caramel (a Jeni’s signature favorite … rich, creamy combo of sweet & salty); Earl Grey (aromatic and subtle); … but ended up getting Reisling Soaked Poached Pear.  (She noted that her next sample will be the Grapefruit Hibiscus Yogurt!)

I sampled three flavors … Bourbon Buttered Pecan (combination of bourbon taste and sea-salted pecans), Pistachio with Honey and Kona Stout–made in honor of the Dublin store opening (rich and dark Barley’s Russian Imperial Stout and Stauff’s Kona coffee steeped in cream). I preferred the Bourbon Buttered Pecan … and am anxious to try Salty Caramel next time.

Jeni’s offers ice cream, gelato and yogurt, with all products made from local-grass fed dairy. The Dublin shop offers about 30 flavors in addition to sundaes, pints-to-go and ice cream sandwiches made with Parisian macaroons. Jeni’s is located at 1 West Bridge Street and summer hours are 11 a.m.-11 p.m. 614/792-5634. www.jenisicecreams.com
